A generic term for the physical component of data storage. Basically if information can be written onto it it gets called an Information Storage Structure, or ISS for short. Typically different specific types are named in the form of "[type] ISS", and shortened to "[type first letter]ISS". For example, a Diamond Information Storage Structure will just be called a Diamond ISS, which is commonly shortened to DISS especially in speech.
