Bitsen Inc. has a long history. The company was originally formed by First Ship 11 with the purpose of unifying the ship's programming infrastructure. They were seven people given the job of making sure every appliance, door, and government OS in the ship ran from a core library. As the First Ship Government gave them power, the locals started calling them Bitsmen. Eventually they had the right to enter First Ship 11 residential quarters to ensure all electronics used their core library. The side of programming they dealt with was very machine level and typically government related. Not things like games or even consumer OSs. It was part of standardizing and controlling how First Ship 11's chips and boards are made, for easier manufacturing while in space.
Not long after the success of First Ship 11's standardization, First Ship 9 (the main computer parts manufacturer for the First Ships) offered to partner with them to standardize the entire fleet. This led to the formalization of the Bitsmen, who eventually became "The Bitsmen Inc. Totopoly of Shipmen on Eleven and Nine". First Ship 9 then used its near monopoly over computer parts to force some politics, ultimately giving the Bitsmen power to inspect First Ship 9's parts for any reason at any time, no matter where the part be within the fleet. This was mostly used for base level infrastructure and parts standardization among the First Ships. This was coined as a Totopoly.
The first name change came shortly after the company's inception. As it went from a group of seven Bitsmen to a full company, they felt it needed a less gendered name. So it became "The Bitsen Inc. Totopoly of Ships Eleven and Nine".
Of the original seven Bitsmen, all stayed with the company until retiring or early death. Six of them married, two had children who would remain in the company after their parents left. Collectively these children agreed to become the Bitsen family of programmers. Ever since they've promoted family members to be part of the company.
It was Procyln Bitsen's grandmother who updated the company name to just "Bitsen Inc. Totopoly", though even at that time most people would just refer to it as "Bitsen Inc.". She promoted the name change during her second most successful ad campaign:
