"I built this with my own TWO HANDS!" the Dorf proudly exclaimed, while holding up the broken monocle that was stolen from me moments ago. Many of the other Dorfs were awed by this and soon the monocle was passed between them. According to the crowd, my broken monocle had been individually made by every single one of them. It is astonishing they have the capacity for language.
Small, mostly subterranean humanoids who lived on Homeworld. As with most subterranean life, they largely went extinct during the Planar Catastrophe due to flooding and earthquakes.
Dorfs are about 3-4 feet in height, weigh 60-90 pounds, and there is little discernable difference in sexes. They have beards with small fiber structures which help filter particles in the air. These beards grow mostly outward not so much downward like in many other humanoids. Their diet consists mostly of mushrooms, various fungi, molds, slimes, and an array of small animals such as worms, grubs, and crickets. Dorfs also compulsively eat small minerals and ores that catch their eyes. These treats have no nutritional value and pass through the Dorf in a few days. They have thick fingers and shovel-like hands which are used for burrowing in clay and softer dirt.
The lifespan of a Dorf in the wild is about 20-35 years. The most common causes of death are cave-ins, clashes with humanoids, and predation. In captivity however they can live up to 60 years with proper care. Common causes of death in a captive Dorf include beard wilt, beard rot, and sun madness. It is important to store Dorfs in cool, humid environments with little sunlight.
Dorfen names change over time and can be highly fluid, sometimes even changing from day to day. All Dorfs are named Orf when they're first born. Upon coming of age (around the age of 14) individuals choose their adult name. These take the form of a couple letters added to the beginning, and maintaining a single syllable. For example, common names include: Borf, Skorf, Worf, Zorf, and Splorf. When a Dorf achieves something of note a new syllable is added to the beginning of their name. Examples include: Steingerorf, Blagorf, Grobaslopamorf. These typically cap out at around 3-4 syllables for all but the most revered Dorfs in a community. The extra syllables will often change, be added to or removed, and are very dependent on what an individual Dorf has been doing in the last few weeks. It is a bit of community consensus on which name is used at any given time and the individual Dorf has little say in their own name past the initial choosing of an adult name.
#TODO Add stuff about how they fuck with humans and Lithos, not so much Rootlings. They sink cities to expand their space. Also talk about how they claim things as their own and have very little understanding of ownership within their own communities and even less outside their communities. Most humanoids hate them and they're vermin.
