The original organization of map makers and compilers within the galaxy. Like several long term galactic backbones, after Galactic Colonization began the guild moved from the First Ships to the Galactic Trade Fleet. While moving through space they make corrections to unexplored or not recently explored areas. The main cargo ships do little mapping but instead keep a guild-maintained fleet with high end scanners. While not mapping, the scanner ships are contracted as short and medium range scanners for the main cargo ships.
Maps made by the guilds tend to be accurate and up to date. Because of the universal trade set up by the Galactic Trade Fleet the maps will frequently have cultural and economic notes as well. When two fleets cross paths they make it a point to have their Maptrack Guilds exchange maps. This is a labor intensive process as the guild's combine maps and use all current and historical references to keep up to date and make accurate predictions.
Many of the maps are equal parts functional and artistic. The time spent hand crafting them in such detail turns many maps into products of love and dedication. Maptrack Guildies tend to be proud of their work as a group and find themselves personally responsible for upholding the culture and standards of the guild as a whole.
