A type of alien known for nesting in space stations and particularly large ships. Full grown, a Space Centipede can reach about 2 meters in length. They're primarily carnivorous but will scavenge as needed. They can consume considerable amounts of food in a short period of time and store the nutrients for later use (so if they've had a sufficiently large meal they may not need to eat again for over a year). Space Centipedes hunt in pairs which are lifelong bonds. If one half of the pair dies the other half will seek revenge if applicable and perish after a few weeks of broken heart.

Their colony structure consists of worker/hunter drones, guard drones, and a queen. The queen is fragile and relies on its guard drones and ability to blend in to stay safe. A queen can lay about 50 roe per month. Newly hatched Space Centipedes eat each other for their first meal so a majority of them do not make it. The amount of roe being laid will scale based on the size of the area the nest is inhabiting.

It was known early on that they taste amazing, however it was Chef Sibzab that discovered a way to prepare them that wasn't deadly to humans. It takes years of training to learn how to prepare Space Centipede meat in a safe manner. The queen's roe is also a highly prized delicacy though due to the difficulty of identifying if an egg is fertilized or not the trade is restricted.

Larvok 4 was an industrial planet which became known for being lost to Space Centipedes. A ship carrying some unknowingly fertilized roe is thought to have been the cause of the disaster.
